Red Beans in Wine Recipe

Adapted from "From a Monastery Kitchen." I used way less butter.

Recipe Ingredients for Red beans in wine

1/2 lb dry red beans
1 tablespoon butter
1/2 tablespoon flour
2 large onions, chopped
375 ml red wine
1 salt and pepper to taste

Recipe Directions for Red beans in wine

Soak then cook the beans until tender. Drain. Melt the butter and lightly brown the onions with a slotted spoon. Add the flour and stir to make a roux. Add the wine gradually, continuing to stir until the mixture is a smooth sauce. Add the beans and onions. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring from time to time so the beans on the bottom do not burn. Serve over hot rice, fish or eggs.
