The Pioneer Woman's Famous Lasagna - Made Over!

Recipe Ingredients for PW Lasagna Makeover

10 ounces lasagna noodles
1 1/2 pounds ground beef
1 pound Turkey Breakfast Sausage
2 cloves garlic , minced
14 1/2 ounces Tomatoes Whole Peeled
14 1/2 ounces Tomatoes Whole Peeled
6 ounce Tomato Paste No Salt Added
6 ounce Tomato Paste No Salt Added
1/4 cup minced parsley, plus 2 additional tablespoons
10 fresh basil leaves
1 teaspoon salt
3 cups fat-free cottage cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus extra for sprinkling
3/4 pound grated mozzarella cheese

Recipe Directions for PW Lasagna Makeover

  1. Cook pasta according to package. Drain and lay out on foil.

  2. Cook ground beef, sausage and garlic in a large skillet until done. Drain fat.

  3. Add in tomatoes with juice and tomato paste. Stir to combine, and simmer over medium-low heat for 45 minutes.

  4. Meanwhile, combine cottage cheese, 1/4 cup parmesan, 1/2 the basil and parsley in a bowl and stir to combine.

  5. When everything's ready, layer 4 noodles in the bottom of an 11x13x2" pan. They should overlap slightly.

  6. Spread half the cheese mixture on the noodles.

  7. Sprinkle 1/2 the mozzarella cheese on.

  8. Spread 1/2 of the meat mixture.

  9. Top with another layer of noodles.

  10. The remaining cheese mixture, and mozzarella, topped off with the remaining meat mixture. Sprinkle on remainder of the parmesan, and pop in an oven preheated to 350˙ for 30-45 minutes or until bubbly.

  11. Remove from oven and allow to rest for 5-10 minutes.

  12. Serve and enjoy!
