A healthy mix of chicken, rice, barley, and vegetables that is an economical and healthy alternative to commercial canned or pouch dog food.

Recipe Ingredients for Puppy Chow

5 cups chicken, thigh, meat only
2 cups cooked brown rice
2 cups cooked barley
1 cup peas
1 cup carrots

Recipe Directions for Puppy Chow

  1. Buy a Family Pack of chicken thigh/leg sections and roast at 350 for 3 hours in a covered pan with 1/4 cup water. Cool, remove skin and de-bone.

  2. Steam 1 cup of brown rice (makes about 2 cups cooked). Combine 1 cup dry barley with water and pan dripping and cook until plumped, about 10 minutes, makes 2 cups. Add 2 cups mixed frozen peas and diced carrots.

  3. Combine all ingredients and simmer together for 15 minutes. Cool and portion out into snack-sized zip-lock baggies. Makes 12 5.5 oz portions.

  4. Cost is a buck or two less than a (12) pouch carton of Mighty Dog pouches.
