Whenever I hear Barry Manilow, all I can think of is John Bender in "The Breakfast Club" asking, "Does Barry Manilow know that you raid his wardrobe?"

The Lounge Changing your name after marriage Aug 11 2012

If I ever get married I am definitely taking my husband's last name. Mine is fricking terrible...Unless his ends up being worse than mine. Then I say we both just change it.Tongue out

The Lounge Got Ink? Aug 11 2012
18:43 (UTC)

I only have one. A Celtic cross with roses and vines wrapped around it. It's on my left back shoulder. I seriously want more, but the cost is outrageous. I luckily got my first one free from a friend that is a tattoo artist. It was during an awesome trip I took with some friends so it also holds a lot of great memories for me.

If I can save enough I am seriously considering getting one on my wrist that symbolizes eating disorder recovery. I bet that is going to be one hell of a painful spot!Foot in mouth

The Lounge 5 random things about yourself? Aug 10 2012

1. I was born on December 24th. (Capricorn!)

2. My favorite colors are Black (pretty much the only color you mostly see me wear), Blue and Purple. (Bruise colors. Woohoo!)

3. I enjoy writing.

4. I tend to like almost any genre of music. My favorites basically being Rock and I'm huge on 80's music. (Not a huge fan of rap or country though. Heh.)

5. I'm a huge horror movie fan. Kind of freaks people out.

Not going to rate you based on a number. (I find it a tad bit immature.) They have HotorNot for that one.Tongue out What I will say is that you look fine. You look like a normal 19 year old. The only thing to me is that it seems that you are hiding behind your hair or hats. Do not be afraid to cut it shorter and lose the hat more often to show more of yourself. I wish you luck on continuing your journey through recovery. It's not easy, but it's worth the fight.

Health & Support How do you stop yourself from bingeing? Apr 12 2012

Original Post by stargazer1:

It might help if you accept that you are binge restricting which we can tell by your other posts.

You are only at a BMI of 18.3, your body is probably still hungry and trying to recover from anorexia.

That would do it!

Health & Support How do you stop yourself from bingeing? Apr 12 2012

I am in this situation right now. AGAIN. My Anorexia started 7 years ago then it turned into BED during recovery and I've been a yo-yoer ever since. Frown Maintenance is a real biznitch. Lmao.

I was doing good on the non binging until about the end of October after almost a year binge free. Currently the last couple of months have been bad. I have at least two binges a week, this past week it was 3 days. It really messes with the mind. I have now gained 11 pounds and I'm not happy about it after already been a healthy weight. It's frustrating to find myself here again.

I cut my workouts down, I always eat to my maintenance and yet, some days and nights I'm still reaching for the food like it's a compulsion. I get upset, I get bored, I get lonely and there is the junk food in the house (thanks to my damn sweets addicted family.) it goes from one piece of a mini candy bar, to 20. A spoon and a whole jar of PB afterwards, little debbie cake packs, to bread. You get the jist. And i sit there thinking, I'm not depriving myself, I'm certainly not starving myself or overdoing the exercise, so why am I doing this to myself?

I can't really tell you what can cure it, other then stay busy. If I'm out and about or have things going on I can't think about the binging. Unfortunately, now it's been pretty idle for me and idle grounds are dangerous ones and at this point I really can't do anything about it.

All I can say is, if you slip to only forgive yourself and try again the next day. It's all you really can do.

Health & Support ED free forever? Wondering what your opinions are... Apr 12 2012
16:31 (UTC)

I believe a person can fully recover, but the illness fully never goes away. You will still have the thoughts every now and then. Mostly in times of stress or when something goes wrong in your life. You will never look at food completely the same way ever again prior to the ED either, but when you are recovered calories/food and weight will take a back seat in your mind so that you can focus on the other things in life and enjoy them.

So to answer: You can be recovered, but that part of you will always still linger around. You just come to a point where you are able to ignore it and it isn't your whole life anymore.Smile

I have MANY, but to make this list short the top one that comes to mind is:

The Lounge Dreading being near my husband Apr 02 2012

I just wouldn't do it anymore, girl. I know it will probably freak you out to see the house be a mess, but if anything take care of only your things and leave his. Tell him you refuse to do his chores and pick up after him. You are his wife not his damn mother. Sometimes you just have to put your foot down. Even tell him if he can't unload the damn dish washer then you won't cook. You put the effort into cooking the least he can do is the dishes. Marriage is a team effort in many aspects.

Unhideable scars all over my legs and arms from too much SH/cutting.

Ruins my day when I try to wear something cute and they're the first thing I see.

Even worse, when anyone asks me about them. I make up something about being in an accident (accident ambiguous) and say I'd rather not talk about it... But hearing repsonses like "That's so bad A that you survived an accident that left scars like that" or "Well, those are sickkkk scars!" usually puts me in tears off and on the whole day.

I'm so sorry you have to deal with those comments.  It's really none of their business.

No it isn't, that's why I try to be extremely vague. I'd rather not talk about it. I know what I did was wrong so that's why they're only scars and not new cuts. I've tried anti scar creams and they didn't really do anything :(

Have you tried mederma? With a bit of cocoa butter? It's not a miracle. Scars are scars and will never fully go away, but they will fade in time. The two things I mentioned seemed to help me with some of the scars I've had. If the scar is deep and raised they are a bit more troublesome to get rid of. But you know what? A scar is a tattoo with a better story. Sometimes. It's a reminder of how much stronger you've become to not resort to it anymore and how far you've come.

Some things can't be changed due to lack of money. It's nice to have new everything, but not everyone has the finances for it.

Then there are those out there that find something wrong with everything, can you imagine if they had the money to "fix" it all? It would be another Michael Jackson case.

I do agree with changing attitude, but some people have been suffering for years or perhaps have had verbal abuse since a young age against themselves. It's not something that changes right away. It takes a long time.

Yep. I've even been accused of having BDD. I've always had this hate relationship with myself. I tend to see flaws and point them out before anyone else would ever notice them just because I feel I should say something before they do!

I'm also in recovery for an ED so it's pretty typical as it is a self loathing illness where you want to strive for perfection but nothing is ever good enough.

It's a very rare occasion where I actually may think I look good, very RARE..but when I do, I treasure those days. Ha Ha.

I guess I'm the type who remembers every criticism I've gotten, but when someone compliments me it goes in one ear and out the other. It's sad, but true.

As I've gotten older I've gotten better with it and it gets better each year, but I still have a long way to go before I can honestly say I am fully comfortable in my own skin.Undecided
