Rum cake is indeed the cake of the day.  You missed sticky toffee pudding and key lime pie cake already this week.

I suppose I'm not arguing that tofu doesn't matter, just that pasta is awesome.

eta: wait yeah, minn. That was the original point. It's bland without the added deliciousness like tofu

though to be fair, pasta is rather bland too until you add something to it and I could chow down on that no problem :-)

same here!

me three, especially if that something is butter, parmesan and fresh parsley, or fresh pesto!

Good luck Claire! Can't know if you don't ask :)

163.1. Trying to eat a little better ahead of hub's reunion in less than 2 weeks. Not logging or working out though (except yoga).

Nope, neither. Managed a reasonable eating day yesterday until a couple Bourbons after work. I'm avoiding breakfast burritos again today :)

160.9

Glad you're working and keeping busy, even though we miss you! Nice job maintaining through the crazybusy.

I've wussed out. Not logging, not working out. I'd like to stay in the 150's but the last 4 days have been in the low 160's and today a recent high of 161.1. Need to muster up some excitement for eating right and working out. I made great progress and I'm letting it slip away :(

If this is going to be revived I'll share. Mom hid a key to the front door in the chimney of the back porch. I thought it was pretty ingenious. I ended up covered in soot a couple times.

Has it ever occured to you that she did that just to see you in soot?

Yes. And/or just generally encouraging us not to lose our keys :)

At it turned out, I did pass on the book club snacks, but not the wine.

I'm sorry you aren't feeling well :( Your work situation sounds impossible. No wonder you want out of there! Maybe a few days in the mountains will make you feel better and reinvigorate your job search plans! It sounds lovely. Happy birthday coming up ♥

I've given up on logging for the time being. Just trying to keep it in the 150's (although today I'm 160.4) and figuring out what I want to do next. I hope we can get out on the paddle boards soon and start doing that a couple times a week. The yoga instructor told us she's out until Jun 29th and didn't think the gym director had found a substitute, so that's a bummer. Also, Jun 29th is the rumored day for the layoff here. Even if I'm not laid off, everyone left will likely have to absorb all the work of those who are, so it's not going to be fun either way.

Sorry I'm a bit of a downer!

Weight Loss How to know how many calories you need? Jun 09 2016

If you go to the Burn Meter it will list some attributes of each activity level. Your fitbit is using a calculation too, based on the stats you gave it. I think since most of your activity is '"step-based" that it's probably pretty accurate, especially with heart rate, and maybe you're Very Active or more. The only way to really know if you burn 2800 (or whatever) calories a day is to eat that many and see if you maintain your weight. I'd give that at least two solid weeks before making a determination. A lot can affect weight so you need a good trend over time.

Welcome. You can put your stats into the tools here, or I can just tell you ;)

First, congratulations on the loss so far, that's a huge accomplishment! Your current weight is right in the middle of the healthy BMI range and your goal is towards the low end. At this point it will be harder to continue to lose, so you should expect it to be slow and scrounge up some patience. I would suggest a 500 calorie deficit or even less.

Based on your height, weight and age, the calculators say you burn 1424 (edit: 1424 at goal weight, 1465 at current weight) calories a day at total rest, like in a coma (resting metabolic rate). Because of your dramatic weight loss so far, this number may be off - I don't really know by how much or in which direction. All these calculations are guesstimates anyway, but a good place to start.

I selected a Moderate activity level based on your description and calculate that you burn 2208 calories a day (edit: 2208 at your goal weight, 2271 at your current weight), so the target of 1800 sounds pretty good to me. That's a deficit of ~400 calories (edit: 471 - still good)

Walking is great exercise. I've found I really like weight lifting to build strength, bone density (never too early to start thinking about that), and some muscle definition. The composition of your body is as much of an indicator of health as weight.
