Do pool workouts burn a lot of calories?
Asked by jadeandrews on Sep 27, 2009
My husband likes to do his work-out regime in the pool. Does he burn more calories than I burn in the gym?
Activities vary in their calorie burning potential depending on the vigor with which they are performed. For instance, general water aerobics burns 272 calories per hour but jogging in water burns 544 calorie per hour for a 150 lb person. In contrast, general health club exercise burns 374 calories per hour at 150 lbs. But water exercise has the ability to improve strength and endurance, flexibility and cardiovascular fitness. It can be either a strenuous workout for an athlete or a very gentle workout for an injured person.
