Like cinnamon swirls but not! Imagine a pizza rolled up, sliced and baked with yummy cheese on top. I've left out the cheese so you can add whatever cheese you like and get the right caloric info. Use the meal/recipemaker feature on the Food Log.

Recipe Ingredients for Pizza Swirls

300 ml warm water
6 g active dry yeast
1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1/2 tsp salt
240 g wholewheat flour
240 g all-purpose flour

Filling:
410 or 350g Dolmio Cherry Tomato and Parmesan sauce - same calories Dolmio Extra Spicy Bolognese sauce
60 g frozen spinach, defrosted but not drained
3 cloves garlic, crushed
85 g red bell pepper, chopped
100 g mushrooms, sliced
100 g canned corn
35 g green olives (I used the pimento-stuffed ones, about 15), sliced
1 tsp oregano

Recipe Directions for Pizza Swirls

  1. In a mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in water. Add in salt, oil & flours. Mix well to form a smooth, elastic dough.

  2. Remove from bowl, grease bowl with very little oil and return dough to bowl. Cover with a damp cloth and allow to double in a warm (not hot) place.

  3. Gently punch down and roll out dough on a lightly floured surface, into a 30cm x 40 cm rectangle.

  4. Heat sauce in a pan with garlic and spinach. Remove from heat and cool.

  5. Spread sauce over the dough base (leave abt 4-5cm at one long end). Topp with corn, peppers, mushroom & olives. Sprinkle with oregano and some of the grated cheese you're using.

  6. Carefully pick up the long side with sauce and begin rolling up the pizza like a swiss roll. Seal the end without sauce by brushing with a little egg/milk/water (egg works best - but it's a waste if u're not using up the rest of the egg).

  7. Slice the roll into slices of about 1.5cm and place these on a baking paper-lined baking tray(s) with some room in between.

  8. Preheat oven to 225C.

  9. Allow the sliced pizza roll to rise again for 20 min. Sprinkle with rest of grated cheese. Bake in oven for 15-20min.

  10. Cool down on a wire rack. Serve when slightly warm topped with sour cream dressing (the Norwegian way!) and a side salad.
