Makes 3 pizzas. Serving size is 1/6 pizza. NOT particularly low calorie -- but as long as I needed to enter it for a calorie count, I am sharing it.

Recipe Ingredients for Pizza with homemade crust

1020 g bread flour
1/4 c canola oil
2 c water
2 tbsp active dry yeast
1/2 c sugar
1 tbsp salt
15 oz tomato sauce
6 oz tomato paste
32 oz part-skim mozzarella cheese
2 medium onions
2 red bell peppers
1 tbsp oregano
1 tsp garlic powder

Recipe Directions for Pizza with homemade crust

  1. Mix 1 cup of very warm water and 1 tbsp of the sugar with 2 tbsp active dry yeast. Set aside to proof.

  2. In large bowl (or heavy-duty mixer bowl) add flour, remaining water, sugar and salt.

  3. Mix briefly then add yeast mixture.

  4. Mix and knead until elastic.

  5. Cover with plastic and let rise until doubled.

  6. Punch down and repeat the rise.

  7. Divide the roll into 3 pieces.

  8. Roll the pieces into large circles to fit pizza pans.

  9. Place in pans and let rise for about 40 minutes.

  10. Bake at 350 degrees for about 7 minutes to set.

  11. Toppings:

  12. Slice onions and peppers (add other veggies as desired)

  13. Mix tomato sauce, tomato paste and spices as desired (oregano, garlic, pepper, etc).

  14. Remove crusts from oven.

  15. Spread with sauce.

  16. Sprinkle cheese evenly over the top

  17. Place vegetables over cheese.

  18. Bake at 450 degrees for about 12 minutes or until cheese is starting to brown.
