Recipe Ingredients for Pita Bread

3 cups flour
1 1/2 tbsp sugar
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 tbsp active dry yeast
2 tbsp butter, melted
1 1/4 cups water, room temperature

Recipe Directions for Pita Bread

  1. Combine dry ingredients in bowl of stand mixer. Add wet ingredients.

  2. Knead with dough hook on low speed about 10 minutes. Dough should be smooth and slightly tacky.

  3. Transfer dough to an oiled bowl and turn once to coat. Cover with plastic wrap. Let rise 1 to 1 1/2 hours.

  4. Divide dough into 8 pieces and roll into balls. Let rest for 20 minutes.

  5. On a lightly floured surface, roll out balls to be about 8 inches in diameter and 1/8 inch thick.

  6. Bake on pre-heated baking stone in 450 degree oven until they puff up, about 3 minutes.
