Very creamy. Turkey bacon is also very good in this recipe and reduces the fat content. I usually freeze 1/2 for future use.

Recipe Ingredients for Penne with Bacon, Asparagus, and Parmesan

1 pound asparagus, cut into 1 inch pieces
1 pound whole wheat penne pasta
1 tablespoon olive oil
5 strips bacon
2 cloves garlic, sliced
1/2 cup parmesan cheese
2 cans cream of chicken soup
1/2 cup 1% milk
1/2 cup water
1/2 teaspoon cracked black pepper

Recipe Directions for Penne with Bacon, Asparagus, and Parmesan

  1. Boil water in large pot. Place asparagus in boiling water and cook for 2 minutes. Remove and cool asparagus by running under water, set aside.

  2. Cook penne, in the same pot used for the asparagus, according to package directions. Strain and toss with olive oil. Cook bacon in a large skillet over medium heat until crispy, reserve 2 teaspoons of bacon drippings in the pan. Chop bacon into large pieces, and saute for 3 minutes with the garlic. Take off heat and set aside.

  3. Combine soup, milk, water, Parmesan cheese, and black pepper. Mix well. Add soup mixture and cut asparagus to the bacon and garlic. Bring to a boil, and stir in penne, coating pasta evenly with the sauce.

  4. If freezing, thaw in refridgerator overnight. To serve, heat oven to 375 and cook for 15-20 minutes or until heated through.
