Recipe Ingredients for Penne alla Vodka

1 tablespoon Olive Oil
1 small onion, cut into a small dice
3 cloves of garlic, minced
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
28 ounces crushed tomatoes
1/4 cup vodka
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup fat free evaporated milk
13 1/4 ounces whole grain penne
8 ounces turkey italian sausage

Recipe Directions for Penne alla Vodka

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over low-medium heat. Add onion, garlic and red pepper flakes. You don't want any significant browning to occur, but cook to soften the vegetables. When they are soft, add the tomatoes, and simmer for several minutes. Add the vodka and cook several minutes more. Taste the sauce and add salt as desired.

  2. sautee sausage and remove casing then add to sauce.

  3. Make pasta of you choice...I make it with penne

  4. Add the cream to the sauce, and continue to simmer. Add cooked pasta to the sauce, and allow the sauce to boil until it thickens and coats the pasta.

  5. ***Can substitute evaprated milk with FF half & half
