Delicious scones made with pears, excellent side dish or breakfast.

Recipe Ingredients for Pear Scones

2 cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1 1/4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
6 tbsp unsalted butter, chilled
1/3 cup milk
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
1 cup fresh pears, chopped

Recipe Directions for Pear Scones

  1. Preheat oven to 400* F. In a large bowl, combine flour, granular sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Using a pastry blender, cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Make a well in the center of flour mixture, set aside.

  2. In a bowl stir together milk, egg, and vanilla. Add milk mixture to flour mixture. Stir just until combined (mixture may appear dry). Stir in pears. Form dough into a ball in the bowl.

  3. Turn dough out onto a well floured surface. Knead dough by folding and gently pressing dough for 8-10 strokes or until dough holds together and is no longer sticky. Pat or lightly roll dough 1 inch thick. Cut the dough with a knife into 8-12 triangular pieces (a biscuit cutter can also be used if desired).

  4. Arrange scones on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 14 to 18 minutes or until brown. Remove scones from baking sheet; serve warm.
