A fruit pie sweetened with honey, but not excessively sweet. For a pie, fairly low in calories.

Recipe Ingredients for Pear/apple pie

1 Pie crust
4 asian pears
1 apple
4 ounces honey
2 tablespoons cornstarch

Recipe Directions for Pear/apple pie

  1. 2 pears, 1 apple (diced) steamed into a fruit compote with a little water. You'll probably need about 1/3 cup water. If you add too much water, you'll need to add more cornstarch later to make the proper thickness of the compote.

  2. Honey is next added to sweeten the fruit compote. Feel free to adjust the amount of honey to whatever sweetness you enjoy. The honey is a major contributor to the calories. By the way, this is good with any good honey (cotton, soybean, mesquite are honeys that we have tried successfully).

  3. Cornstarch is then added to complete the fruit compote.

  4. The pie crust is baked for 10 minutes at 400 degrees F to prepare the crust with aluminum foil around the edges of the crust.

  5. Slice 2 pears into 5 mm thick layers (that's about 1/5 inch).

  6. Alternate filling the crust with sliced Asian pears and fruit compote.

  7. Now bake the result for 10 minutes at 400.

  8. Finally put some of the remaining thin pear slices on the top. To avoid having these turn brown, coat them in a very small amount of the fruit compote. You're only trying to get a layer of compote thick enough to prevent oxidation, not enough to avoid the beautiful visual appearance of the pears. We use Asian pear for this because they're very crisp. This is likely to be a good recipe with other types of pears as well.

  9. Let the pie cool.
