Recipe Ingredients for Peanut Butter Swirl Brownies


Brownie Batter Ingredients:
1 1/3 cups sugar
3/4 cup applesauce (preferably organic)
2 tbsp. water
2 tsp. ground flax seeds
1/2 cup water
2 tsp. vanilla
1 1/3 cups unbleached white flour
3/4 cup cocoa
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 cup vegan chocolate chips

Peanut Butter Topping:
1/2 cup smooth peanut butter
1/2 cup pure maple syrup
1/3 cup unbleached white flour

Recipe Directions for Peanut Butter Swirl Brownies

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F. Coat an 88-inch square baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.

  2. Stir together granulated sweetener, applesauce, and 2 Tablespoons water in a medium size bowl. In a small cup, mix ground flax seeds with 1/2 cup water. Add to applesauce mixture and stir to combine. Add vanilla to this mixture.

  3. In another small bowl, combine flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt. Add applesauce mixture to flour mixture. Stir just to combine and pour into prepared pan. Place peanut butter, maple syrup, and flour into a blender or food processor.

  4. Process until smooth. Drop by spoonfuls onto brownie batter. Using a knife, swirl the peanut butter into the brownie batter (be careful not to mix completely).

  5. Bake for 40-45 minutes for chewy brownies.

  6. Allow to cool before serving.
