Good stew-- I only use 1 pound of beef, the original calls for 2.

Recipe Ingredients for Pauline Werner's Beef Stew

1 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 pound lean beef, cut into 1-1/2 inch cubes
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 pinch salt
1 pinch ground black pepper
1 onion, diced
8 ounce tomato sauce
2 potatoes, peeled and cut into large chunks
4 carrots, cut into large chunks
3 stalks celery, thickly sliced

Recipe Directions for Pauline Werner's Beef Stew

  1. heat oil in pot

  2. dredge beef in flour, salt and pepper

  3. brown in oil on all sides

  4. add enough water to cover & tomato sauce, onion and bay leaf

  5. bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer for 1 hour

  6. add the other veggies and simmer for 45 minutes
