One of Orville Walls' passions was healthy eating. He worked hard to create a tasty, healthy "bean pie." This is a variation of his whole wheat yeast bread pastry.

Recipe Ingredients for Pastry for Bean Pie

1 1/4 cup water
1/4 cup olive oil
3 tablespoons molasses
1 tablespoon yeast
3 cups whole wheat flour
1 1/4 teaspoon salt

Recipe Directions for Pastry for Bean Pie

  1. Heat water (or milk) to lukewarm, then place in bread machine

  2. Add olive oil, molasses (or honey), yeast, flour, salt

  3. Mix on dough setting

  4. Fill pastry with bean pie filling, then bake in the oven @ 400 degrees, for 20 minutes.

  5. Makes 21 pastry shells when rolled out to about 1/8 ? inch thick and cut using ring to regular mason jar
