We called it 'gravy' when I was a kid. This is a basic red sauce for all pastas.

Recipe Ingredients for Pasta Sauce

1 pound ground beef, browned in small amount of oil
1 onion, diced
30 oz tomato sauce
15 oz diced tomatoes
15 oz water
2 tsp thyme
2 tsp oregano
1 tsp red pepper flakes
1 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
2 cloves garlic, diced fine

Recipe Directions for Pasta Sauce

  1. Brown meat, do not drain unless very greasy.

  2. Add all the ingredients and stir thoroughly.

  3. Bring to low boil and then reduce to a simmer.

  4. The longer this simmers, the better, but watch for burning - will ruin the sauce. Use a diffuser and lowest flame.

  5. Serve with any pasta or use in baked dishes such as lasagna or ziti.

  6. A little Romano cheese, freshly grated will finish off the dish nicely.
