Recipe Ingredients for pasta e fagioli

12 oz bacon
1 large onion
4 cloves garlic
1 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
28 oz diced tomatoes
4 cups chicken broth
2 cups water
45 oz cannelini beans
6 oz orzo
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tsp dried parsley

Recipe Directions for pasta e fagioli

  1. chop the bacon into small pieces and brown over medium heat in a large pot or dutch oven.

  2. dice the onion and mince the garlic while you are waiting on the bacon to brown.

  3. once the bacon is browned, add the onion, garlic, oregano, and red pepper flakes. cook until the onion is softened.

  4. add the broth, water, tomatoes, cannelini beans, and 1 tsp salt. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes.

  5. Stir in the orzo and cook until just under done.

  6. remove from the heat and add the parsley, and more salt and the pepper to taste.
