Recipe Ingredients for Paprika Beef Stew

1.13 lb. beef
6 carrots
8 medium potatoes
1 medium onion
2 cups lentils
2 tbsp vegetable oil
1/4 c white flour
1 1/2 tbsp paprika
6 cups water

Recipe Directions for Paprika Beef Stew

  1. Heat 2 TB oil in a large pot. Sear the beef chunks. Add chopped onions and paprika, mix together. Add 6 cups of water. I couldn't include 6 beef oxo cubes in the ingredient list, was not recognized but often I add those to the pot to add flavor. They're salty so usually I don't add any salt to the stew.

  2. Bring back to a boil, then turn to low/simmer and add chopped vegetables. Simmer on low about half an hour.

  3. Remove about half a cup of liquid, put in a pyrex cup or a pot. Cool to about room temp, add the flour, mix until it's not lumpy. Either add this back to the stew, or cook in a separate pot. Either way cook the flour/stew liquid for about two minutes, until it's thickened, then add it back to the main pot.

  4. Tom likes to add canned tomatoes, i prefer the paprika taste. My Mom made it with the paprika, his Mom added tomatoes...we each have our little comfort food thing going.

  5. Also I never add lentils to the stew while it's cooking. I added those to the ingredients to check the cals and fiber per serving. I keep a container of cooked lentils in the fridge and add them to soups, stews etc. when i want extra fiber.
