Romanian sweets, very soft and tasty.

Recipe Ingredients for Papanasi

450 g quark, COTTAGE
2 eggs
100 g semolina
8 tbs bread crumbs
1 tbs sugar, caster
3 tbs sugar, powdered
1 tbs sunflower oil

Recipe Directions for Papanasi

  1. Heat the oil in a pan. Add the bread crumbs and stir continuously until they are brown. Add the caster sugar and mix everything. Turn off the heat.

  2. In a bowl, mix the eggs, the quark, the semolina.

  3. Boil water in a big pot with some salt in it. Form small balls from the quark mixture. When the water is boiling, put the balls inside. When they are rising above the water, let them boil for another 5 minutes and take them out. Cover them with the sweetened bread crumbs. Add some powdered sugar.

  4. In Romania it is made from a kind of cheese people cannot find anywhere else. Quark is the closest choice but you could need more semolina for the same consistency.
