Make Ahead French Toast (can also be made up to an hour before serving)

Recipe Ingredients for Overnight French Toast

4 tbsp butter
12 French bread slices
6 eggs
1 1/2 cups milk
1/4 cup sugar
2 tbsp maple syrup
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup confectioner's sugar (optional)

Recipe Directions for Overnight French Toast

  1. Spread butter over bottom of large baking pan (jelly roll pan) with 1-inch-high-sides. (disposable lasagna pans work good too!)

  2. Arrange bread slices in the pan in a single layer.

  3. Combine eggs, milk, sugar, syrup, vanilla and salt in large bowl.

  4. Whisk until well blended.

  5. Pour egg mixture over bread.

  6. Turn bread slices to coat evenly.

  7. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate up to 12 hours.

  8. Pregeat over to 400 degrees.

  9. Bake French bread 12-30 minutes on each side (depending on how long it was refrigerated...no refrigeration= 12 minutes, overnight = 30 minutes) until no golden and no longer wet.

  10. Transfer to plates.

  11. Sprinkle with confectioner's sugar.

  12. Serve hot with maple syrup or favorite topping.
