Recipe Ingredients for one pot daal & curried rice

2/3 cup brown basmati rice
2/3 cup red lentils
2 2/3 cup water
1/2 sweet onion
1 T curry powder
2 tsp. garam masala
1 T butter
1 T olive oil
3/4 cup frozen peas
1/2 cup cherry tomatoes
1/2 cup plain yogurt, whole milk
1 pinch of salt
1 pinch of pepper

Recipe Directions for one pot daal & curried rice

  1. rinse lentils and rice

  2. add both to water and bring to a rolling boil on high heat

  3. stir, reduce heat to lowest low and cook 45 min.

  4. Sautee onions in olive oil until wilted

  5. add curry powder and garam masala and bring temp to med low

  6. continue stirring onions and spices, add butter to keep from sticking (7 min.)

  7. add tomatoes to onion mixture

  8. turn off onions and tomato spice mixture after tomatoes soften

  9. When rice and lentils are cooked through add onion mixture and peas

  10. stir until fully combined

  11. add yogurt and salt and pepper to taste
