Black olives, green olives, and mushrooms in a homemade pizza sauce in the dutch oven. A-maz-ing!

Recipe Ingredients for Olive Pizza

3/4 cup pizza sauce
3 cups bread flour, divided
2 1/4 tspn yeast
1 tspn salt
1 1/2 tspn honey
1 tbsp olive oil
6 ounces mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup olives, green
1/2 cup black olives
1/2 cup mushrooms

Recipe Directions for Olive Pizza

  1. Mix up the crust first taking your bread flour, yeast, salt, honey, olive oil.

  2. In a large bowl, mix 1/2 cup of the flour with the yeast and salt. Dissolve the honey in 1.25 cups of lukewarm water and add to the dry mixture.

  3. Add the olive oil and mix for 3 minutes with a wooden spoon. Mix in the remaining flour. (The dough will be slightly sticky, which is good you want that.) Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, until smooth.

  4. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl and cover with the plastic wrap, or a plastic bag if you get one from the grocery store. I usually turn on the gas burner for a minute and turn it off, which creates the perfect environment for heat, but if cooking outside about two feet from the coals or fire. Let it relax for about 10 minutes in a warm place.

  5. If cooking inside preheat the oven to 450 degrees; otherwise set your cast iron by the coals, but not on them yet to warm edges of cast iron.

  6. Punch down the dough. Allow to relax for another 10 minutes. Punch down.

  7. If warming by or over fire take off of fire and spread, stretch, and shape your pizza dough by hand onto the cast iron pot. Or toss in air, but don't tear.

  8. Spread 1/2 the sauce onto the dough and sprinkle the cheese over the sauce.

  9. Bake for about 20 - 25 minutes in oven, or until golden brown. On campfire however have 8 coals on the bottom of the dutch oven and 25 coals on top of the dutch oven and leave lid on for about 8 to 10 minutes and check after this then do this in 8 - 10 minute intervals.
