This is a timeless Northern WI/MI tradition for miners.

Recipe Ingredients for Old Fashion Pasty

4 oz Beef, Ground, 95% Lean Meat / 5% Fat, Crumbles
3 oz Potatoes, White, Flesh And Skin
2 oz Carrots
1 oz Onions
0.5 tsp Sugars, Granulated
1.5 cup Gold Medal All Purpose Flour
0.75 tsp Salt, Table
0.5 cup Shortening
4 oz Water

Recipe Directions for Old Fashion Pasty

  1. Brown ground beef

  2. Dice all vegetables and salt and pepper them to taste

  3. Prepare Crust the day before

  4. Cut Crisco into flour and then mix in water a little at a time.

  5. Wrap in handiwrap and refrigerate overnight.

  6. Roll out between wax paper and draw and 8" circle using a pie plate.

  7. Roll out beyond this circle by about an inch.

  8. Fill with meat and vegetables and add sugar.

  9. Bake in 400 degree oven for 40 minutes.Place on cooling rack and then freeze. Finish cooking out of the freezer on 400 for another 40 minutes.
