substitute 1/2 cup molasses for the 1 1/2 cups of white sugar that the recipe calls for. added oats instead of one of the cups of flour.

Recipe Ingredients for Oat Bran Muffins (no added sugar)

2 cups whole wheat flour
2 1/2 cups bran
1 cup oats
1/2 cup molasses
2 eggs
1 cup water
2 cups buttermilk
1/2 cup shortening
2 tsp ground ginger
1/2 cup raisins
2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt

Recipe Directions for Oat Bran Muffins (no added sugar)

  1. boil water, add one cup water to one cup of the bran and mix.

  2. cream shortening and molasses

  3. add eggs

  4. add buttermilk

  5. add salt, soda and ginger and the cooked bran. slowly add the remaining flour, oats and bran mixing well.

  6. bake @ 425 for 15-20 minutes
