These bars are yummy, good for kids, keep for about 2 weeks if tightly wrapped, and pretty healthy. Not too light on calories, though, at 175 a pop, but a great snack for active kids, or broken up into yogurt for lunch.

Recipe Ingredients for nut-free granola bars

2 c rolled oats
1 c flour
1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup wheat germ
3/4 tsp salt
3/4 tsp cinnamon
1/2 c sunflower seeds, (I use seeds that are from a nut-free environment since my son is allergic)
3/4 c chocolate chips, coarsely chopped
1/2 c craisins
1/2 c raisins
1/2 c dried apricots, chopped
1/2 c applesauce
1/3 c honey
1 egg
1/2 c canola oil
2 tsp vanilla

Recipe Directions for nut-free granola bars

  1. mix all the dry ingredients including fruit and chips. (oats to apricots)

  2. mix the wet ingredients together separately, (applesauce to vanilla)

  3. stir together well

  4. press into a well-greased or parchment-lined 9x13 pan

  5. bake 35 minutes or until the edges begin to brown at 350

  6. allow to cool a few minutes, but you must cut them while still warm. If you omit the applesauce this will make a crunchy bar that MUST be cut before cooling completely

  7. enjoy!
