More like biscuits than cookies. Sweet and kinda chewy. Very tasty! (but not very healthy) eat plain or with molasses, cheeze whiz, jam or whatever your heart desires!

Recipe Ingredients for Newfoundland Cookies

1/3 cup margarine
1/2 cup shortening
3/4 cup sour cream
2 1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda

Recipe Directions for Newfoundland Cookies

  1. Cream margarine and shortening together.

  2. Add sour cream. Can instead use equal amount of buttermilk or sour milk (add about 2 tsp of vinegar to milk and let sit at room temp for 5 minutes).

  3. In a seperate bowl mix together dry ingrediants.

  4. Mix dry ingrediants with wet.

  5. Roll 1/2 to 3/4" thick and cut to the size of a medium to large cookie.

  6. Bake at 350'F for ~16-18 minutes (or until mostly cooked) and let sit on pan for 2 more minutes. Cookies will continue cooking slightly after being taken out of oven.
