Use ground turkey, or chicken or turkey sausage.

Recipe Ingredients for New Mexican Stew

1 lb turkey sausage
1 medium onion, diced
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp cumin
1 tsp chili powder
5 cups butternut squash
2 large potatoes, diced
3 medium carrots, diced
1/2 cup green chilies, diced
1 quart organic free range chicken broth
3/4 tsp salt
3/4 tsp ground black pepper
2 tbsp lime juice

Recipe Directions for New Mexican Stew

  1. Brown ground turkey and pour off any fat, if any. Add the turkey to the slow cooker and add the remaining ingredients through sea salt and ground pepper. Stir and cover.

  2. About 20 min before serving, stir in lime juice. Add minced cilantro, 2-3 tablespoons. Optional: add 1-2 teaspoons of agave nectar if needed. Also could add 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of cinnamon.
