Recipe Ingredients for Navy Bean Soup

1 c. navy beans (dried)
4 c. water
2 oz. cooked ham
2 stalks celery
1/4 c. onion
1 dash liquid smoke

Recipe Directions for Navy Bean Soup

Add water to rinsed navy beans and bring to boil. Boil hard for 2 minutes. Cover and let stand for one hour. Rinse beans. Place rinsed beans in four (or five) cups of water and bring to a boil; simmer for 30 minutes. Then using potato masher, crush (some of the) beans. This helps the brew thicken as simmering continues. Thirty minutes prior to serving, add cooked ham (or other meat), celery, onion and dash of liquid smoke. Simmer till ready to serve.
