A good use for extra apples, and a delightful treat for the entire family! Use a naturally sweet apple, such as a gala or red delicious.

Recipe Ingredients for Naturally Sweet Applesauce

750 g apples
1 tbsp lemon juice
1/2 cup water

Recipe Directions for Naturally Sweet Applesauce

  1. If you're using a food processor or blender in the end, go ahead and leave the skins on (good nutrition!) otherwise, skin the apples. Quarter the apples, remove the hard parts (steams, cores, and little ends).

  2. Place apples in medium stock pot, and add water just to cover the bottom and go about midway up the apples.

  3. Squeeze fresh lemon juice into the pot, or add a tbsp or so or bottled juice, to taste.

  4. Bring to a boil, the reduce heat to a medium simmer, and cook until tender, about 7 minutes.

  5. If using a food processor or blender, remove apples from water and process until smooth. If not using a machine, get out the old potato masher and have at it!

  6. Serve warm with dinner for a delicious treat! Store remaining applesauce in tightly sealed jar in refrigerator.

  7. This yields about 3 cups of sauce. A serving size is approximately 3 - 4 tbsp.
