Recipe Ingredients for Nana's Italian Pasta Sauce

56 oz roma tomatoes (kitchen ready)
28 oz water
12 oz organic tomato paste
1 tsp kosher salt
1 tsp black pepper
1 1/2 tsp basil
1 1/2 tsp oregano
1 1/2 tsp garlic powder
3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

Recipe Directions for Nana's Italian Pasta Sauce

  1. Note: Nana doesn't give out the real amounts of spice, 'cause there aren't any. Season to taste.

  2. Combine all items in a 6 quart pot.

  3. Stir well.

  4. Simmer for 2.5-4 hours.

  5. If also cooking sausages and meatballs, add to sauce after sauce has been cooking for an hour, then simmer for closer to 4 h.

  6. For more potent flavor add basil, oregano, and pepper in last 20 minutes, rather than at the beginning.

  7. Use fresh spices if available.
