Adapted from the world's best recipe, on city of Nanaimo website - reduced butter cream, left out almonds.

Recipe Ingredients for Nanaimo bars

1/2 cup unsalted butter
1/4 cup sugar
5 tbsp. cocoa
1 egg
1 1/4 cups graham crumbs
1 cup coconut
3/8 cup unsalted butter
30 ml cream
1 oz custard powder
1 1/2 cups icing sugar
4 oz chocolate, semi-sweet
2 tbsp. unsalted butter

Recipe Directions for Nanaimo bars

  1. Mix first 6 into base layer.

  2. Spread into non-greased pan.

  3. Mix next 4 into butter cream.

  4. Spread on top.

  5. Melt chocolate with butter.

  6. Once cool, pour on top.

  7. Refrigerate and cut.
