This is a recipe my mother in law has made for my husband since he was a little boy. I've changed it up by adding the mushrooms, bacon and bread crumbs to give it a little something special.

Recipe Ingredients for My Hubby's Favorite Mac and Cheese

1 package bowtie pasta
2 tsp flour
2 tbsp butter
3/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp dry mustard
1 1/2 cups half and half
2 cups cheddar cheese, medium, shredded
1 1/2 cup cheddar cheese, sharp, shredded
2 dashes black pepper
1 cup mushrooms
2 ounces bacon (6 slices)
1/8 cup bread crumbs

Recipe Directions for My Hubby's Favorite Mac and Cheese

  1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees

  2. Butter 9" by 13" pan

  3. Cook pasta thoroughly

  4. Place in buttered pan

  5. Cook the bacon and set aside to drain on paper towels

  6. Drain most of the bacon grease from the pan and toss in mushrooms until mushrooms are warm all the way through

  7. Set mushrooms aside

  8. In a separate saucepan, melt butter

  9. Once butter is melted, stir in flour slowly to make rue

  10. Add salt, pepper and dry mustard

  11. Slowly stir in half and half

  12. Once cream is added, put in 95 percent of the cheese mixing constantly.

  13. Do not let boil

  14. Put cheese sauce onto pasta

  15. Mix in bacon and mushrooms

  16. Sprinkle on leftover cheese

  17. Put dish into pre-heated oven for 10 minutes

  18. Remove dish from oven and sprinkle on bread crumbs

  19. Put back in oven for another 5 to 10 minutes or until cheese is bubbly
