Recipe Ingredients for My Homemade Lasagna

8 oz. lasagna noodles (9 noodles)
1 lb. ground beef (85% lean or better)
26 oz. Prego spaghetti sauce (1 jar)
6 oz. tomato paste, canned
8 oz. mozzarella cheese
1 egg
15 oz. ricotta cheese
1/2 c. parmesan cheese
2 T. parmesan cheese
2 t. dried parsley flakes

Recipe Directions for My Homemade Lasagna

  1. Cook noodles according to package directions or use oven ready lasagna noodles. If cooked, lay the cooked noodles out on waxed paper until ready to put together layers.

  2. Brown ground beef in skillet over medium heat stirring and breaking meat apart; drain off any fat and set aside.

  3. Combine 1/2 c. parmesan cheese, egg, ricotta cheese and parsley flakes in a medium size bowl; set aside.

  4. Combine the spaghetti sauce and tomato paste thoroughly in another medium size bowl; set aside.

  5. Layers: Pour 1 cup of spaghetti sauce over the bottom of the 9x13 pan. Place 3 noodles over the sauce. Using 1/2 of each, layer the mozzarella, beef and cheese mixture over the noodles. Repeat the layers: 1 cup of sauce, 3 noodles, other half of mozzarella, beef and cheese mixture. Finish with the last 3 noodles topped with the remaining spaghetti sauce.

  6. Cover the lasagna dish with tin foil and place in the oven at 375 degrees for 45 minutes. After 45 minutes or when noodles are done, top the lasagna with 2 tablespoons of parmesan cheese and return to the oven until cheese is melted (approximately 5 minutes). Remove from oven and let stand for about 15 minutes before serving.
