Mushroom Gravy Recipe

For baked potatoes, mashed potatoes, pasta or as a gravy over meat.

Recipe Ingredients for Mushroom gravy

1 pound mushrooms
4 clove garlic cloves
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 onion, finely chopped
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1/2 cup dry red wine
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
1 tablespoon cornstarch, dissolved in 1 1/2 cups cold water
1/2 teaspoon sugar

Recipe Directions for Mushroom gravy

  1. Slice mushrooms. In a heave non-stick skillet, cook garlic in butter or olive oil over low heat. Stir until pale golden. Add onion and cook, stirring until softened. Add mushrooms and soy sauce. Saute mixture over high heat, stirring, until the liquid that the mushrooms give off is evaporated and mushrooms begin to brown.

  2. Add wine and vinegar and boil until liquid is evaporated. Stir cornstarch mixture and add to skillet with sugar. Bring mixture to a boil, stirring, and simmer for 2 minutes. Stir in salt and pepper to taste.. Gravy can be made ahead a day or so. When reheating, you may need to add water to thin. Serve gravy over baked or mashed potatoes and with meat. Also tasty over pasta.
