This sambar is made with mung dal rather than arhar dal which goes into the sambar we usually make.

Recipe Ingredients for Mung dal sambar

3/4 cup mung bean, cooked
1/3 cup tamarind, pulp
1/2 tsp mustard
1 tsp fenugreek seed
1 tsp oil
2 peppers, green, chillis,cut
1/2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp turmeric powder
5 oz water

Recipe Directions for Mung dal sambar

  1. add water to tamarind pulp, keep aside.

  2. heat oil in wok, splutter mustard seeds, add fenugreek seeds, add chillies and saute.

  3. add tamarind water, salt, turmeric powder and bring to boil.

  4. add the cooked mung bean, stir well and bring to boil.
