macaroni mixed with cream cheese and sour cream, laced with green onions, over a layer of lean ground beef accompanied by diced tomatoes and sauce

Recipe Ingredients for Mrs Texas Casserole

1 lb lean ground beef
1 diced tomatoes, canned, 16 oz
1 c tomato sauce
2 t sugar
2 t salt
1/2 t garlic powder
1/2 t black pepper
12 oz macaroni
3 oz cream cheese
1 cup lowfat sour cream
5 green onions
8 slices american cheese

Recipe Directions for Mrs Texas Casserole

  1. brown the beef

  2. add diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, garlic powder and black pepper, simmer about 10 minutes

  3. meanwhile, cook the macaroni, drain, put it into a large bowl with the cream cheese and sour cream

  4. chope the green onions and add them to the macaroni, mix gently.

  5. in a 13x9" glass casserole dish or cake pan spread the meat mixture.

  6. Atop this spread the macaroni mixture.

  7. place american cheese slices on top of al, press down a bit.

  8. bake in a medium (350 degrees F) oven until heated through.

  9. let stand 10 minutes before serving.
