Adapted from "Better Crocker's Cookbook", new and revised, New York: Golden Press, 1986, p. 37.

Recipe Ingredients for Mrs. Dalhouser's Banana Bread

1 cup sugar
1/3 cup butter ( or margarine ), softened
2 eggs
3 bananas, medium, ripe and mashed
1 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking powder

Recipe Directions for Mrs. Dalhouser's Banana Bread

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F.

  2. Grease bottom of loaf pan, sized 8-1/2 x 4-1/2 x 2-1/2 or 9 x 5 x 3.

  3. Mix sugar and margarine ( or butter ) in 2-1/2 quart bowl.

  4. Stir in eggs until blended.

  5. Add bananas.

  6. Beat 30 seconds.

  7. Stir in remaining ingredients until moistened.

  8. Pour into pan.

  9. Bake until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.

  10. Loosen sides of loaf from pan and remove from pan.

  11. Cool completely before slicing.

  12. Wrap.
