Replace 12 oz water with beer or white wine Original Source: California Culinary Academy Soups & Stews, page 59; Split Pea Soup - Black Forest Style Instead of ribs, use ham hock and veal frankforter as recipe indicates; or use fully cooked pork loin rib.

Recipe Ingredients for MR Split Pea Soup

1 1/2 cups onions, chopped
1 1/2 cups carrots, shredded
1 cup celery, diced
2 cups potato, diced
1 lb. pork ribs, fully cooked
1 3/4 cups split peas, dry
3 1/2 cups of water
1 tsp. thyme, dried
16 oz chicken broth

Recipe Directions for MR Split Pea Soup

  1. Saute onions, carrots, celery and potato in 1 cup of chicken broth.

  2. Add remaining ingredients and simmer for 2 to 2.5 hours.

  3. Remove rib bones and chop up the meat; return to soup.

  4. For smooth and creamy soup, use blender to puree.
