Recipe Ingredients for Mongolian Beef

1 lb flank steak
1/4 cup cornstarch
3 teaspoons toasted sesame oil
1/2 teaspoon grated ginger
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup low sodium soy sauce
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes

Recipe Directions for Mongolian Beef

  1. Rinse and pat steak dry. Dredge in cornstarch. Place in strainer and shake off excess cornstarch.

  2. Heat half the oil in large wok or pan at medium-high heat and add garlic and ginger. Immediately add soy sauce, water, brown sugar and pepper flakes. Cook sauce for 2 min and transfer to bowl. Sauce will be thin at this point.

  3. Turn up heat and add remaining oil to pan. Add beef and cook, stirring until browned - should not take long. Add sauce back into pain and let cook along with meat until thickened.

  4. Serve hot with rice.
