A wonderful fruit cake that's moist and flavorful. It is not diet food, but it is Christmas.

Recipe Ingredients for Mom's Yule Cake

8 ounces orange zest
8 ounces dates
1 cup maraschino cherries, drained
1 1/2 cup almonds or brazil nuts
1 1/2 cup walnuts
1 cup raisins or currants
3/4 cups sugar
3/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
0.08 teaspoons vanilla
1 cup whiskey

Recipe Directions for Mom's Yule Cake

  1. Pre-heat oven to 300F.

  2. Line a greased loaf pan with parchment paper and grease again so that the paper is greased as well as the pan

  3. In a large bowl, stir all the ingredients together until combined.

  4. Pour mixture into the loaf pan.

  5. Bake in the center of the oven for 2 hours. Cover the loaf for the last 30 minutes of the cooking time.

  6. After it cools you can soak it with brandy if you want. Wrap the loaf with chesse cloth and sprinkle the brandy (or whiskey) over it, wrap it with foil and then place in a plastic bag.

  7. Repeat the soaking routine until the loaf is as potent as you want it.
