Moist meatloaf with a tangy sweet topping. Fresh ginger and sage accent the turkey creating a delightfully unique alternative to a ground beef meatloaf.

Recipe Ingredients for Mom's Turkey Meatloaf

16 oz ground turkey
1/4 cup rolled oats
1 raw egg
1 onion, chopped
1 carrot, grated
6 oz mushrooms, chopped
1 tsp garlic, minced
1 tsp fresh ginger, minced
1 tsp fresh sage, minced
1/2 cup tomato sauce
2 tsp maple syrup
2 tsp dry mustard

Recipe Directions for Mom's Turkey Meatloaf

  1. In a large mixing bowl combine the ground turkey with the oats, egg, onion, carrot, mushrooms, garlic, ginger, sage and 1/4 cup of the tomato sauce. Mix the ingredients together well.

  2. Turn the meat mixture into a 8"X8" baking dish. Form into a mound flattening the top and keeping the loaf away from the sides of the dish. Only the bottom of the loaf should be touching the dish.

  3. In a small bowl or cup mix together the remaining 1/4 cup tomato sauce, maple syrup and dry mustard. Pour this mixture over the top of the mound. With the back of a spoon spread the topping over the top and sides of the loaf.

  4. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. The topping should be browning. Some of the moisture from the vegetables and meat will be bubbling around the sides as well.
