Great family meal. Excellent over spaghetti pasta or as a second day sauce for use in lasagna or baked ziti. Serve with a salad and/or garlic bread.

Recipe Ingredients for Mom's spaghetti sauce

1 lb hamburger, 80/20
2 tsp. lard, bacon grease
136 g. onion, chopped
153 g. green pepper
1 tsp. garlic, minced
1/4 tsp. salt
1 dash pepper
113 g. mushrooms, canned, rinsed and drained
425 g. tomato sauce, canned
170 g. tomato paste, canned
794 g. tomatoes, canned, diced
12 oz. beer, light
1 tbsp. Italian seasoning
1 tsp. basil, dried
1 tbsp. parsley, dried
1/10 g bay leaf (1 whole)
1 beef bouillon cube
1 tbsp. Parmesan cheese
2 tbsp. cornstarch
4 tbsp. water

Recipe Directions for Mom's spaghetti sauce

  1. Brown hamburger, onion, green pepper, and garlic in bacon grease. Add salt and pepper to taste. Drain.

  2. In Crockpot, combine diced tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, drained mushrooms, beer, parsley, bay leaf, and bouillon cube.

  3. Stir in hamburger mix.

  4. Top with Parmesan cheese.

  5. Cook 8-10 hours on low.

  6. Before serving, remove bay leaf and thicken with cornstarch/water mix to desired thickness. Should stick to spoon.
