Softer, with Applesauce and Spices

Recipe Ingredients for Mom's Oatmeal Cookies

2 cups brown sugar
2 cups granulated sugar
2 cups shortening
250 grams eggs (4 extra large)
1 cup applesauce
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
3 cups flour
6 cups oatmeal
12 oz. chocolate chips
1 cup raisins

Recipe Directions for Mom's Oatmeal Cookies

  1. Beat together shortening and sugars.

  2. Beat in eggs, vanilla and applesauce.

  3. Blend in salt, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon and nutmeg.

  4. Slowly add flour. Stir in oatmeal ( you may have to do this by hand.)

  5. Add chocolate chips and raisins.

  6. Drop by spoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets.

  7. Bake at 350 for 12-15 minutes.
