Mom's Banana Bread Recipe

Mom was always a hit with her banana bread. It always sold at the church bake sales :-)

Recipe Ingredients for Mom's Banana Bread

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
2 eggs
2 cups flour
1 tsp Baking soda
1 tbsp Milk
4 bananas
3/4 cups chopped nuts

Recipe Directions for Mom's Banana Bread

  1. Blend the sugar, shortening and eggs together with an electric mixer. In a separate bowl measure the flour and baking soda and blend. Add the flour and baking soda gradually to the batter also adding the milk. Last stir in the bananas that have been mashed with a fork. Last add the nuts. Grease and flour a loaf pan and pour the batter into the pan. Bake at 325 degrees for approximately 1 hour. Test for doneness with a toothpick.

  2. I often bake in glass pint size jars?just spray with PAM and fill little more than full. Bake till done (45 minutes or so)

  3. and put lids on while still hot. Lids will vacuum seal. (I always buy jars that are for freezer too)
