Lebanese side dish, delicious with pickled turnips and salad. Can be served cold with a sprinkling of vinegar

Recipe Ingredients for Mjaddarah - Lentils with Rice

1 cup lentils (brown)
3 1/2 cup water
3/4 cup long grain rice
1 tbsp salt
5 onions (thinly sliced)
1/2 cup oil

Recipe Directions for Mjaddarah - Lentils with Rice

  1. Place lentils and water in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and cook for 20 minutes until almost tender.

  2. Saute onions in 1/4 cup of oil until browned.

  3. Add rice, salt, 2-3 Tbsp. of Onion and oil mixture to lentils; stir and cover.

  4. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and cook for an additional 20 min over low heat, until rice is tender.

  5. When lentil mixture is cooked, pour onto a serving platter and smother top with remaining fried onions.
