My wife's "from scratch" chilli con carne

Recipe Ingredients for Michelle's Chilli Con Carne

400 g ground beef
1 chopped tomatoes
1 large onion, diced
100 g mushrooms, sliced
2 cloves garlic, crushed
2 stock cubes
2 tbsp tomato paste
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
100 ml water

Recipe Directions for Michelle's Chilli Con Carne

  1. Dry fry the mince in a frying pan, and drain any fat that comes out of the meat.

  2. Add the sliced onions, garlic and mushrooms and cook on a medium heat for 10 minutes until vegetables are softened. Add a little water if mixture starts to stick.

  3. Add the chopped tomatoes, tomato puree and beef stock cubes, stir. Add some water at this stage if chilli is too dry.

  4. Add the chilli powder, cumin and cayenne pepper.

  5. Place a lid on the frying pan and simmer on a low heat for a good hour, checking often and adding water until chilli is as "saucey" as you like it.
