Recipe Ingredients for Meringues (1 piece)

1/2 cup egg whites
1/2 cup sugar

Recipe Directions for Meringues (1 piece)

  1. Preheat oven to 300 F.

  2. Beat egg whites until soft peaks form.

  3. Add sugar, a tablespoon at a time, beating after each addition.

  4. Beat until stiff and glossy. Don't overbeat or egg whites will start to lose their stiffness.

  5. Put a sheet of parchment paper on a cookie sheet. Spread the egg whites in 8 circles (about 3-4" each). Alternately, you could use a piping bag and make nests with the meringues.

  6. Bake for 30 minutes. Turn off the oven and leave the meringues in the cooling oven until it's cold.
