Honey mustard may be found in the condiment section of your supermarket. If unavailable, substitute Dijon-style mustard.

Recipe Ingredients for Meatless Monte Cristo Sandwhiches

10 oz sourdough bread (4 large (about 6" X 3") oval sliced)
1 tbsp honey mustard
2 oz Swiss cheese (2 large slices)
2 eggs
1/4 cup skim milk
1 tbsp margarine
1 tbsp raspberry or strawberry preserves (optional)

Recipe Directions for Meatless Monte Cristo Sandwhiches

  1. Spread one side of each slice of bread slightly with honey mustard. Place cheese on 2 slices, folding to fit. Close sandwich remaining bread, mustard-side down.

  2. Beat eggs in a pie plate or large shallow bowl. Add milk and beat well. Melt margarine in a large skillet over medium heat. Dip each sandwich in egg mixture for about 30 seconds per side or until well coated. Fry sandwich in margarine for about 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown. Serve immediately with preserves.

  3. Serving Suggestions: Serve with vegetable soup
