very yummy homeade bread recipe from my own Martha Stewart- she is not the one that went to jail :) you can use whole wheat flour and lessen the sugar amount. I have also added flax seed in the past. Currently I am working on trying to make this more airy as it is a very dense, but delicious bread, my family can eat an entire loaf in one day.....not the best for the diet

Recipe Ingredients for Martha's favorite bread recipe

4 cups all purpose flour
4 tbls sugar
1 tbls extra virgin olive oil
1 1/2 cups water
1 tbls salt
1 tbls dry active yeast

Recipe Directions for Martha's favorite bread recipe

  1. add together in warm large mixing bowl

  2. 1.5 cups warm/hot water

  3. 1tbls dry active yeast

  4. 4 tbls sugar

  5. let stand for 5-10 minutes to activate yeast

  6. *you can use instant yeast, if doing so follow the directions on the instant yeast package- I believe you mix the yeast right into the flour, then add the water*

  7. after 5-10 minutes stir in 1 tbls oil and 1 tbls salt

  8. add flour cup by cup until mixed

  9. mix dough every 15 minutes for one hour

  10. re-shape, or put in loaf pan, let rise for an additional 20-30 minutes

  11. ( You can also split the dough into two loaves, if it has risen correctly it will be about the size of the "light" bread loaves that they made- so smaller slices, but the same great taste!)

  12. bake @ 400 degrees for approximately 20 minutes.

  13. If the bread is browning too quickly cover with tin foil for reminder of baking
